Sharing is Caring

In this post, I want to share some classroom ideas related to healthy eating. Feel free to share yours in the comments!

Classroom Discussion Ask discussion questions to practise speaking, as well as critical thinking and health awareness. Some examples are:
What does “sharing is caring” mean in the context of healthy eating?
What healthy habits do you already practice?
What new habits would you like to try?

Another idea is to have students list their favorite "high-performance" activities (gaming, playing football, playing the piano) and discuss which foods help them do those things better.

“Share Your Habit” Activity Each student writes down:
One healthy habit
One small recipe or snack idea

Then students share their ideas with the class or in small groups. The teacher collects the ideas and creates a class healthy habits list.

Some examples might be:
Drinking water instead of soda
Yogurt with fruit for breakfast
A banana and peanut butter snack

Healthy Recipe Wall Students write their small recipe on a card or poster. Their recipes should include ingredients and simple preparation steps. The teacher creates a “Sharing is Caring – Healthy Recipe Wall.” Students can read them, and even try each other's ideas!

Group Challenge: Healthy Habit Week Brainstorm healthy habits and make a list of them. Then each student chooses one healthy habit from the class list and tries it for one week. At the end of the week, students discuss:

Was it easy or difficult?
Did they feel any difference?

This activity will help your students reflect and develop personal responsibility and health literacy

"Lab" Ideas Have students bring in a wrapper from their favorite snack. Make lists of the nutrients and calculate the teaspoons of sugar using the formula:
Total Sugars (grams) /4 = Teaspoons of Sugar
