This morning I came across an interesting article on National Geographic. The article, which can be found here, talks about the importance of taking a walk after eating a meal.

Then, I thought, wouldn't it be interesting to create an activity for a CLIL class? So, here we go!

The first thing I wanted to do is modify the text and add some photos and bullet-point lists, to make easier for my students to read. For this I used canva, and you can find the modiefied text below.

And now the CLIL task!

Title: The Journey After You Eat

After this task, students will be able to:
• understand what happens in the body after eating
• explain how movement affects digestion and blood sugar

Before reading the text, ask your students these questions:
1. What do you usually do after eating?
2. What do you think happens inside your body after a meal?

You can write the answers on board.

Then, ask your students to read the modiefied text in small groups (3-4). While reading, they should underline these:
• 2 things the body does after eating
• 2 benefits of walking after a meal

When students finish, discuss the answers with the whole class.

Creative Task (Main Activity): Create a Body Story Comic

Task:
Students will create a comic strip (4–6 panels) showing what happens inside the body after eating and then going for a walk.

Instructions:
Each panel should include:
• Eating food
• Digestion begins
• Sugar enters the blood
• Walking starts
• Muscles use sugar
• Body feels better / balanced

To help your students, you can write on the board the following sentence starters:

“First, I eat…”
“Then, the body…”
“After that…”
“Because of walking…”
“This helps…”

Alternatively, students can turn body parts into characters (e.g., Mr. Stomach, Captain Muscle, etc.), and add speech bubbles

Mini Presentations

At the end, students will present their comic in in class.

As reflection, you can ask the students some questions like:
• Will you change what you do after eating?
• Why is walking useful?

To take it a step further, you can also:
• Create a class poster: “Healthy Habits After Eating”
• Do a real 5-minute walk experiment and reflect

I hope you liked my idea! If you try it out, or if you have any suggestions, I will be happy to read them in the comments below!
